What is Beamcode?
Beamcode is a free QR code file transfer app at beamcode.vjyas.online. You upload encrypted files once, then let someone scan a QR code or open a link to download — even if you are not on the same Wi‑Fi network.
Do I need shared Wi‑Fi to transfer files with a QR code?
No. Anywhere mode uses a Cloudflare edge relay, so phone, PC, and tablet can exchange files across cellular, guest Wi‑Fi, or different networks. Nearby mode is optional: both devices stay on the same Wi‑Fi (or a phone hotspot) and send the file directly so it does not use extra internet data.
What is Nearby mode on Beamcode?
Nearby is a same-room handoff. The sender keeps the QR on screen. Anyone on the same Wi‑Fi (or a phone hotspot) can scan it — up to 8 people, not just one. Each device gets the file over WebRTC. The cloud only carries tiny connection messages. If Wi‑Fi blocks phones from talking, use a hotspot. For someone far away, use Anywhere mode.
Can Beamcode send files over Bluetooth?
No. Web browsers are not allowed to send files between two phones over Bluetooth. Use Nearby on the same Wi‑Fi or a hotspot, or use Anywhere mode for any network. Phone OS features such as AirDrop or Nearby Share are separate from the website.
Is Beamcode end-to-end encrypted?
Yes. Encryption is required. Files are encrypted in the browser with AES-256-GCM before upload. The server never receives the encryption key; the key travels only in the link fragment (#k=…) or compact QR payload.
Can I send multiple files at once?
Yes. Send separate files in one beam or zip them into a single package. Large transfers use multipart upload on R2 (up to about 2 GB) with resume support.
Can I share the QR on social networks and scan a downloaded image?
Yes. After a beam is ready you can share the QR or link via WhatsApp, Telegram, X, Facebook, LinkedIn, email, or SMS, or use Share QR… to attach the PNG. Receivers open /scan and either use the camera or upload the saved QR image — Beamcode reads the same full-link or compact bc: payload.
What is a room PIN on Beamcode?
When enabled by the sender, Beamcode generates an 8-digit PIN. Receivers open /join, type the PIN, and open the transfer without scanning — useful in meetings when QR is hard to capture.
Is Beamcode free? Do I need an account?
Beamcode is free to use and requires no account. Links expire, downloads are capped, and optional auto-delete removes ciphertext after the last download slot.
How does Beamcode compare to AirDrop or nearby-share apps?
AirDrop and similar tools need proximity or the same local network and are built into the OS. Beamcode Nearby is the in-browser version of that (same Wi‑Fi or hotspot, QR to pair). Beamcode Anywhere is for cross-network QR file sharing — café Wi‑Fi to mobile data, office to home — when the other person is not next to you.
Is my file content private?
Plaintext file content is not readable by the server when you follow the encrypted share link. Passwords, rate limits, and short TTLs add layers. See the privacy policy for metadata handled at the edge.
